KURI Hotel FAQs

Frequently asked questions from our Canine Guests

Why do you not require kennel cough?

Your Suite (Kennel) charge is by the day, not by night?

Kennel cough is like the common cold, with humans you do not vaccinate for it.
The Vaccine only vaccinates against 2 strains of kennel cough, those strains have not changed for many years, unlike the virus itself.
Kennel cough may have serious implications for dogs who are immunocompromised, very young or very old, as with humans those can get complications. For the vast majority it is no worse than a common cold. It takes around 14 days from the vaccines administration for the virus to leave the dogs system, so we do not want them vaccinated before they come and stay with us. They will have received the antibodies as a pup during the initial vaccinations stages or at the vaccine booster stage, (either 6 or 12 months of age) depending when you got it done.  So they are as covered as they can be. As Dr Ronald Shultz explains. Unfortunately, there are at least 40 agents that cause kennel cough … but the vaccine only addresses two of them". That makes for quite a high likelihood that the vaccine won’t protect your dog, and it’s the reason leading veterinary immunologist Ronald D Schultz PhD says that …“Kennel cough is not a vaccinatable disease…”

I want to bring my own dog food, but it is not vet prescribed?

Unfortunately KURI cannot store individual food for dogs. Our stock is kept in date and under secure and tested procedures. Loose bags of food may create hygiene issues within the kitchen. We have to allow for dogs on special veterinary diets but that is strictly limited to those dogs only, and owners are required to provide proof of those conditions with a vet letter/email.

Can two dogs go for a walk together and just be charged for 1 walk?

If they are small dogs - yes. If they are medium/large dogs they need to be walked separately with 2 staff for the health and safety of your dogs and our staff. In those cases you will be charged for 1 walk per dog.
This is due to the current legislation (law) regarding dogs that puts both the owner and the walker as being responsible for any incidents that occur.
(N.B. KURI still reserves the right to say no to small dogs being walked together if they are not behaving when they are on their hunt).

KURI charges for its services by the day, we are not a hotel (kennel) that applies a drop off and pick up time, we provide flexibility. You can drop off between 7am and 9pm and pick up anytime during those hours which means the kennels can not be used by another dog if you wish to use that type of service.
For example, if you wish to drop your dog off at 7am and collect them at 9pm the next day, means no other dog can be booked into that suite for 2 days. Hence you pay for those days.
If you don't want to use that type of flexible service there are other establishments that charge by the night.
The reason we are different is because we want to provide more services, choices and flexibility to our customers. Personally I dislike having to hang around until 2pm to get into a motel/hotel room and be out the next morning by 10am.
KURI will never be that place. We also staff our facility accordingly, so double the amount of staff required by law. To provide these and all our other services i.e. Our facility is fully air-conditioned 24/7.  All our guests get at least 6 hours a day outside of their suites. We health check the dogs daily and send updates for those in our premium and business class suites. Dogs are out and about between 7am until 9pm daily. At night they get serenaded by dog calming music. You can also choose to have your friends walked offsite, or taken on training walks,  put into social time or have their birthday party whilst staying with us. They can even get a groom. Hence we fit a lot into a day for our guests.

Can I use my daycare pass while my dog is in your Hotel (kennels)?

Certain dogs will be able  to use their daycare pass whilst they are staying with us. However those who are able to redeem their passes will not be able to do so during our normal daycare shut down periods i.e. Christmas shutdown and public holidays.
Social time will always remain available at our Hotel complex throughout the holidays. Those with eligible passes wishing to use them will need to ensure they have enough left to cover their dogs stay. NB This use of passes only apply if the dog/s have attended one of our KURI daycare centres and there is a space available in our Airport day care unit, plus your dog gets on with the dogs at the airport daycare centre. Your dog/s must also be a current user of the daycare service. (Your passes cannot be used for social time in the kennels, as those dogs do not go into our daycare areas for safety reasons).

So I don't need treats for my dog at the KURI Hotel?

KURI does not use treats as a reward, we use Neuro mapping techniques to fire a new Neuro pathway to the dogs learning side of the brain. This in turn releases an Opiate, there is no  better reward than that.
That is the reward your dogs will get if they stay with us. Treats are a thank you and do not teach a dog to do anything unless you have one in your hand. All that teaches a dog is to do things for you only if you have a treat?
So the simple answer is you don’t need to provide treats for your dog whilst they stay with us. We would like to give them treats during the day, and when they go to bed at night, or if staff are giving them one on one attention in a calm environment. They will get plenty of brain work and cuddles etc, either way, plus lots of Opiate releases. We no longer refer to positive reinforcement as the latter (force) often meant trainers used force, we simply teach dogs at KURI.
